Activities

Welcome picnic-A picnic for faculty, residents, and their families is held at a local park during intern orientation.          

Friday Afternoon Club-monthly resident gathering with drinks and appetizers held at a local establishment as a chance to relax outside of work.

Softball- Internal Medicine residents, spouses, and friends man this city-wide slow-pitch softball team that plays once a week.  They are making quite a showing this year in the league rankings!

House Officer and Faculty Picnic- A picnic for faculty, residents, and their families is held at the end of the summer, and is accompanied by the Annual “Golden Urinal” tug-o-war, a horseshoes, volleyball, food, and drinks.

Wronger Cup-Resident/Faculty Golf Scramble is a fiercely competitive golf tournament held every fall between the residents and the faculty.  The winning team captures the trophy until the next year. 

A Halloween Party is held at the home of one of the residents and is graced by an array of interesting costumes.

The Holiday Banquet is held in the grand lobby of the Durham Western Heritage museum and is filled with tasty holiday treats and socializing.

A Post-Recruitment Party is held at the end of residency interviews as a thank you to the residents for time and energy committed to our candidate interview days.

Turner Park Appreciation Night- picnic and baseball at the local Minor League Baseball Park with Turner Park Clinic staff, residents, faculty and their families in appreciation of the care provided at the clinic.

Year End Residency Banquet-Annual Banquet honoring the preliminary residents and the graduating residents held at a local country club.  Spouses/significant others, as well as the parents of the graduating residents are invited to this formal gathering.  The evening generally concludes with an incriminating slide show of childhood pictures, entertaining stories, and a lively dance.
